Flotillas
Flotilla 1 "Marblehead"
Flotilla 1 meets at the USCG Station Marblehead. It presently has 18 members. The flotilla is new to the Division, having joined
it as part of the Auxiliary realignment in the Spring of 2006. Prior to that, Flotilla 1 was Flotilla 6 in Division 9 of the Auxiliary
9ER. It was founded in the late 60's. Over time, its members have held various leadership positions
in 9ER, including DCP, VCP, SO-CS, SO-PA, SO-PB, SO-FN, SO-MV, SO-VE, SO-SR and DSO-PE.
The Flotilla is active
in public affairs and CG support missions, including Officer of the Day, watchstanders and boat crew/coxswain. For the past 20 years, the Flotilla organized and conducted weekend summer tours of the Marblehead
Lighthouse, escorting more than 50,000 visitors up the 78 steps to the top. Several times that number also visited a
boating safety booth hosted in conjunction with the tours.
Though small in numbers, the present flotilla members have contributed a total of 18,400 hours from 2002 through 2005. In CY2005 alone, there were
4,678 hours. This includes 2666 hours of direct Coast Guard Operational Support at Station Marblehead and 407 hours of
Underway Marine Patrol and Search & Rescue. In 2005, there were also over 205 hours contributed for public affairs events and more than 500 hours in producing
division newsletters.
